From where are these men recruited?
They are rowdies & ruffians from Tung-Kun, Sanon, Kuaisin. It is said that several thousands of their men are returning from California & Honolulu with arms.
How are these men enlisted?
The majority are enlisted by force, while some are paid for their services, while others are willing aids to this cause & give their support of their own free will.
What arms & ammunition have they?
They have several thousand rifles, more than a hundred junks of various sizes & over one hundred horses. Their arms are smuggled principally from Hong-Kong & Macao.
What preparations have they made?
They have already made over 20,000 uniforms, innumerable flags & banners & collected arms & ammunition.
What moves have they made?
They have concentrated their forces at Tung-Kun, Sanon, Kuai Sin, Pak Mong Fa, a large place S.E. of Kwai Sin to bow before the polar star & their banner (to swear allegiance to their cause) at Sha Tau, a village on the North Shore of Deep Bay.
A certain Wong Mang Kung Ki, Wong a Tsap, Tin Tam Tsai, Kung Fuk & others informed their men at Shamchun & other places to get in readiness all their arms & stores.
